Zelens Lip Enhancer Review and Swatches

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

I think I'm going to be one of the first people to review this product, which is quite surprising, I'm usually late to the game as I live in Spain. I've had this product for quite some while now so I think I can give you a comprehensive review on this new makeup product by Zelens.
Zelens
Zelens is a luxury skincare brand and although I had never tried anything by them, they're well known in the beauty world for having superb skincare products. So when I heard that they were releasing some colour products I was immediately interested. I really like to think that wearing makeup isn't harming my skin and if a makeup product claims to be good for your skin I am immediately interested.

What is it?
The Zelens Lip Enhancer is supposed to be infused with antioxidants from green shiso leaves to shield against the environment and contains 15 ingredients to keep lips nourished and looking youthful. That sounds really appealing to me as I have very dry lips and I want them to look plump and youthful.

If you're wondering why the lipstick has a strange colour it's because it's one of these lip products which reacts with your natural chemistry providing a bespoke pink colour to your lips. It's supposed to be long lasting without being sticky or drying. This sounds like heaven! I once tried the Dior Lip Glow at a Dior counter and it's a similar product which I loved so I was pretty excited by this one.

Now comes the tricky part: there are things I like about this lip product but there are also some drawbacks. If you put a thin layer on your lips you get a bright baby pink colour to your lips which is bright but flattering. It's a bit too bright for winter for my liking but I expect I'll think differently when the warmer weather arrives.

Colour and formulation
The colour seems to be like a stain and lasts a crazy amount of time. I don't think you can even remove it easily on the go if you wanted to! The problem is that after a while the hydrating feel on the lips disappear and I feel the need to reapply if I want to carry on having that balmy hydrating feeling on the lips. What happens when you reapply is that the colour is enhanced even further, to the point that the colour is a crazily bright magenta.

If you like very bright colours this will be a sure win for you, specially as the colour is a real stain and will last all day. But the main issue for me is that if you only want a bit of colour it's really difficult to control because as soon as you use more lipstick it'll get even brighter. It's definitely very stark, specially in winter.

My second issue is that it doesn't really feel hydrating at all, only when you've first applied it. I thought it would feel like the Dior Lip Glow, which is like a balm.

Final thoughts
I'm quite torn with this product: on one hand I like that it's long-lasting and that it's supposed to be infused with beneficial ingredients but on the other hand it dries out quickly and the colour can be too bright and impossible to remove on the go one it has stained the lips.

As this is supposed to be a bespoke colour it might look very different on other people. The Beauty Professor loves this product and it looks like a lovely baby pink on her. It's much brighter on me as you can see.

I think I'll be using this more in the summer when I don't mind my lips being super bright and I want it to last long as I'm out and about having fun! I will just have to keep in mind that I can't change my mind once I've applied it and I'm out and about without makeup remover!

What do you guys think? Has anyone tried this new lip product!
