Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream Review

Wednesday, December 07, 2016

Elemis is a well-loved British skincare brand and although I've tried quite a bit of their range, this is the first product to make it to my blog! It's the brand's most sold products, is it as good as they say?

Elemis is a British skincare brand aimed to be sold at spas and beauty salons, but it is widely available and has become a firm favourite. Their products are formulated with marine and plant actives which are sourced and extracted ethically.
They're carefully formulated and tested and can take up to 3 years to get into the market due to research and analysis of results, which is a good thing.

Packaging
In a true spa-like manner the style is clean and simple. The jar is a lot larger than the amount of product inside, it looks expensive and luxurious.
Jars aren't the best way to store creams unfortunately, as you have to dip your fingers in and they don't seal as well as other systems.
Ingredients
The main active ingredient in this cream is a Mediterranean algae called Padina Pavonica, which is supposed to increase the amount of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in the skin. They improve moisturisation, suppleness, firmness and elasticity.
It also contains Ginkgo Biloba to protect against free radicals and Rose Centifolia, Carrot and Mimosa extracts.

It provides hydration with Shea Butter and I also wanted to point out it contains several natural oils such as Wheat Germ oil, Citrus Lemon oil, Cedar oil and Cumin oil which could irritate sensitive skin.

Fragrance
I'm used to my skincare being almost odorless but this cream has a noticeably fresh fragrance. I actually find it very pleasant and relaxing as it isn't overpowering, but it is immediately noticeable.

Unfortunately added perfume to a skincare product can be irritating on sensitive skin, so make sure you try it out before you buy.

Consistency and How to Use
For some reason I expected this cream to be really thick and rich, difficult to spread on the skin and slow to be absorbed.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that it feels light and watery, and not oily at all in spite of the ingredients. It glides on the skin with a feeling of freshness and is quickly absorbed.

You don't need a very large amount at all and you can massage it smoothly into the skin in upward movements. It can be used twice a day on clean dry skin.

Effects
This cream provides fresh moisture to the skin, without feeling heavy or thick. It works well under makeup as it's absorbed very quickly.
Older skins might miss a thicker consistency and lifting effect to this product, I found it has a plumping and softening effect to the skin but for deep lines and wrinkles it might not be enough.
Overall
I have to say I enjoyed using this cream from the very first moment I opened the jar: it feels luxurious and yet it's refreshing and light.
It helps to moisturize and works under my makeup which is great. Unfortunately it is pricey at £80 for 50 ml so I would really make sure to try it out first before shelling out the full price. You can sometimes get large samples as gifts with purchase or at the counter!
