Weleda Baby Calendula Shampoo and Body Wash and Facial Cream

Thursday, November 30, 2017

When I was first getting ready for Astrid's arrival one of the things I looked into was skincare. I was quite surprised to find that not all brands catered for babies and that there were others which were exclusive to the baby world.

I wanted the best for my baby, and Weleda's philosophy is what I was looking for!

Weleda is a very well known Swiss brand, which uses natural ingredients and medicinal plants to elaborate their skincare and pharmaceutical range.
I really worry about chemicals on my little girl's perfect skin, so when I read that Weleda uses no chemicals, fragrances or synthetic ingredients I was very interested.

I was lucky to be gifted a set from one of my husband's cousins so I was able to try out their Calendula range. Some of the products are also available in their White Mallow range but I'm yet to try them.
I have tried more from their Calendula range but today I'll talk to you about the baby shampoo and body wash as well as their face cream for babies.
Calendula
This plant with beautiful orange flowers, known by everyone as marigold, has become the brand's insignia thanks to its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory powers.
It helps heal, soothe and restore the skin, which is perfect for the delicate skin of newborns and toddlers.

The active ingredients such as carotenoids, flavonoids and essential oils have a protective and defensive effect on healthy skin but also help to soothe and restore inflamed, dry or damaged skin.
A baby's skin doesn't adapt well to sudden temperature changes so these ingredients help develop the resistance of the skin.
Shampoo and Body Wash
This shampoo and body wash doesn't contain soap so it gently cleanses hair and body. Calendula calms the skin, Sweet Almond oil prevents dryness and the lather doesn't sting the eyes.
It leaves the hair silky soft and easy to comb and as it doesn't contain artificial fragrance it doesn't interfere with the baby's own scent.
Face Cream
My husband always jokes when he uses this face cream on the baby, he says to her sweetly: "Look, Astrid, putting on your face cream just like your mummy!"
My older skin needs protecting from aging but my little girl's skin is five times thinner than grown-up skin so it's more prone to moisture loss. Calendula soothes and protects while lanolin and almond oil moisturize.
The cream is easy to apply and is absorbed quickly, she never complains when we use it.
Overall
I have to say I am very happy with the Calendula range from Weleda. It is well priced and I know that all the ingredients are safe and natural.
The only issue to mention is that it doesn't contain artificial fragrance, and marigold has a very distinctive fragrance, which not everyone likes. My husband strongly dislikes it and he finds it strange that the baby doesn't smell of the traditional powerful products.
The smell doesn't last long at all (if you're worried that it's pungent) but after your baby will smell clean and of its own natural scent. If you're looking for your baby to smell differently you'll need to use a perfume after or look at a different range of products.

I have to admit that I am so happy with this range that when an offer came up on an online page I picked up 5 shampoo bottles and another 5 body cream bottles. Let's just say I'm well stocked...

Have you tried any Weleda products?

Thanks for sharing, definitely sounds like something I'd need to smell first with the marigold :)
