NARS Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Review

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

As a girl with oily lids I cannot go a day without eyeshadow primer, I remember before I found out about them...it used to be terrible! Let me tell you about this high end primer by NARS.

This primer is a thin cream which is colourless, unlike others such as the Urban Decay or Too Faced primers. On one hand this is a good thing as you don't need to worry about the colour of the primer but it can be hard to tell if you've applied it all over the lid.

I have to admit it really does its job tremendously well: it really keeps eyeshadow put, extending the wear brilliantly. When I use this primer I can expect to have the same look at the end of the day without any creasing, smudging or migration.

Not only that, it actually seems to make colours look brighter! I was surprised as it isn't as thick or creamy as a paint pot so I thought it wouldn't help to hold pigments, but it seems to enhance the colour of the eyeshadow and make it more intense.

This primer is completely matte, so if you are using matte shadows they'll stay that way, some of the other primers seem to have a slight sheen, even when they've dried out.

The packaging is convenient, it looks like a mascara and comes with a doe-foot applicator. I do wish the tube were clear, because there's no way to know how much is left, and the stopper doesn't let you reach the bottom of the tube.
I was incredibly disappointed that it only lasted around 6 months of daily use. My Urban Decay Primer Potion lasted a lot longer than that.

Overall it is a brilliant primer, the formula is wonderful, it really enhaces and makes eyeshadows last all day, but it is a little pricey for the amount you get, I really wish the price were a little more competitive!
Which is your favourite eyeshadow primer?
